A Great Development October 28, 2008 : 12:26 PM

Last week the AP reported “that the Interior Department plans to make available 190 million acres of federal land in a dozen Western states for development of geothermal energy projects -- a move that could produce enough electricity for 5 million homes.”

Geothermal energy is generated using extremely high temperatures from deep beneath the Earth’s surface. Only four states California, Nevada, Hawaii and Utah have geothermal power plants and geothermal energy accounts for less than one-half of a percent of our energy production. Hopefully this action by the Interior Department will increase that number dramatically.
